My project idea is to produce a children’s book in the Kickapoo language, which is spoken in Oklahoma, Texas, and Mexico. Currently, there are no children’s books written in Kickapoo. The number of Kickapoo speakers is quickly declining, so producing media will hopefully help foster language usage within the younger generations. The book’s writing and translation were done in conjunction with my friend Kewea Mosiah Bluecloud, an esteemed language teacher and native speaker of Kickapoo. This $400 will go towards hiring an illustrator to complete the book, because no children’s book is complete without pictures!
